Transforming a
10-Year-Old Home

A complete home renovation journey from Abbigere, Bangalore — combining architecture, interiors, materials, bathrooms and modern functionality.

The Project Story

Giving an Existing Home a New Identity

Renovating an existing home requires a different approach from constructing a new house. The existing structure, available spaces, circulation, plumbing, electrical systems and the family's present requirements all have to be considered together.

The Abbigere project by Royal Architecture is a detailed transformation of a home that is approximately 10 years old. The property had been rented out for around a decade and is now being redesigned into a modern and functional family home.

The Founder Behind the Material Selection

In the video, the founder of Royal Architecture personally explains the selection of tiles and bathroom materials. The discussion shows how material choices are considered as part of the overall interior design rather than as isolated products.

From tile patterns and finishes to bathroom fittings and accessories, the selection process focuses on how each material can work with the space, lighting and other interior elements.

Material Selection

Understanding the Different Tiles

Tiles are one of the most visible elements in an interior. Their size, pattern, texture and finish can significantly influence the appearance of a room.

During the showroom discussion, the founder walks through different tile styles and explains how material selection should be considered according to the space and design.

01 — LARGE FORMAT

Large-Format Tiles

Large-format tiles can create a cleaner and more continuous visual appearance because fewer grout joints are visible.

They can be considered for larger floors, living spaces and feature surfaces where a spacious appearance is desired.

02 — MARBLE LOOK

Marble-Look Tiles

Marble-look surfaces provide a premium stone-inspired appearance and can be used to create an elegant interior character.

Depending on the design, these finishes can work across floors, walls and selected feature areas.

03 — PATTERN

Decorative & Patterned Tiles

Patterned tiles can introduce visual interest through motifs, contrasting tones and repeated designs.

They can be used selectively for feature walls, bathroom areas and decorative zones.

04 — GEOMETRIC

Geometric Designs

Geometric tiles use structured shapes and repeating patterns to create a contemporary visual statement.

These designs can be particularly effective when balanced with simpler surrounding finishes.

05 — TEXTURED

Textured Surfaces

Textured finishes can add depth to an interior without requiring excessive decorative elements.

They can be considered for selected feature surfaces where the objective is to create visual depth.

06 — DESIGN BALANCE

Coordinating the Materials

Tile selection is not only about choosing an attractive sample. The material needs to work with lighting, furniture, cabinetry, wall colours and other finishes.

“A beautiful interior starts with choosing materials that belong together.”

Bathroom Materials

Hardware Accessories & Bathroom Fittings

A bathroom is not complete with tiles alone. Faucets, shower fittings, sanitaryware and accessories are equally important in creating a coordinated and functional space.

01

Basin & Tap Fittings

Basin taps are highly visible elements and should complement the basin, countertop and bathroom design.

02

Shower Fittings

Shower fittings combine daily functionality with design. Their position and finish should work with the bathroom's tile layout.

03

Wall-Mounted Accessories

Wall-mounted fittings can create a clean and organised bathroom appearance while keeping the installation integrated with the wall.

04

Finish Coordination

Hardware finishes should coordinate with tiles, vanity units, mirrors and other bathroom accessories to create a unified look.

Abbigere Transformation

More Than an Interior Makeover

The Abbigere renovation is a complete transformation rather than a simple cosmetic upgrade. Royal Architecture is merging two individual houses into one larger and more functional home.

The project includes structural changes, interior renovation, bathroom construction and renovation, kitchen redesign, terrace development, electrical and plumbing renovation and a new front elevation.

Creating a New Living Experience

One of the major transformations is the living area. The earlier living space was largely unplanned, while the new design introduces a modern double-height living space intended to become the central visual attraction of the home.

The design also introduces a double-height feature wall, contemporary TV unit and enlarged windows to improve sunlight and natural ventilation.

A Modern Kitchen for Modern Requirements

The old kitchen layout was not suitable for the family's present requirements. As part of the renovation, the kitchen is being completely redesigned into a practical modern modular kitchen with improved functionality and circulation.

Turning the Terrace Into a Usable Space

The terrace renovation includes creating a sit-out using an MS structure with Mangalore tiles. The old terrace tiles are being removed and complete waterproofing is planned.

The existing terrace bedroom will also receive a new attached bathroom, helping turn the upper level into a more comfortable and usable part of the home.

A Completely New Front Elevation

The existing house lacked a strong and cohesive front elevation. Royal Architecture has developed a new elevation intended to give the renovated home a timeless and elegant identity.

This connects the exterior appearance with the complete transformation taking place inside the property.
